Monsey Raises Millions For Torah Learning In Eretz Yisroel

By Idy Perl

Following the Israeli government’s decision to end the stipends of Kollel yungerleit across Israel, cutting over 32 million shekel every month from kollel and yeshivah budgets, several gedolei Yisroel joined together to establish the Keren Oilam Hatorah fund, which seeks to raise the $100 million needed to cover the deficit for the year.

The gedolei Yisroel, including Hagaon Rav Dov Landau, Hagaon Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch, Hagaon Rav Don Segal, Hagaon Rav Yaakov Hillel, the Rachmastrivker Rebbe, and Hagaon Rav Avraham Salim, set out on a historic trip to raise the necessary funds from communities across the United States.

One of the stops they made was in Monsey, at an event held in the Glick home on Viola Rd. The gedolei Yisroel spoke to the packed crowd about their mission, the importance of supporting ongoing Torah learning and Eretz Yisroel, and beseeched them to give generously to the yungerleit in Eretz Yisroel.

At the end of the event, Monsey residents had together raised over $8.5 million, a sum that will go a long way to supporting Torah in Eretz Yisroel.
