Fire Danger Raised to ‘High’ in Rockland County as Statewide Burn Ban Remains in Effect

By Akivah W.

With dry weather continuing to grip the region, Rockland County’s fire danger level has now been raised to “High,” prompting renewed warnings from officials about the risk of brush fires and outdoor blazes.

Governor Kathy Hochul’s statewide ban on all open burning remains in effect, as conditions across New York continue to pose an elevated fire threat. Residents are reminded that no open fires are permitted until further notice.

The Office of Fire and Emergency Services is also urging Rockland residents to conserve water as drought conditions persist. Even small sparks can quickly spread under these dry circumstances, officials warn.

For updated information, residents can view the New York State Fire Danger Map and Drought Conditions Map at the Department of Environmental Conservation’s website.
