Local Legislature Approves $30 Million For Sidewalks

Local Legislature Approves $30 Million For Sidewalks

By Idy Perl

At the latest legislative meeting, Rockland County legislators, with support from the local county executive, announced that $30 million will be allocated for local sidewalk projects throughout Rockland County.

The $30 million will be split over the next 3 years and will be divided between all 17 legislative districts. Local county executives will choose which roads and sidewalks the money will go to.

“We are still in the beginning stages of budget discussions, but this is one thing that all county legislators think is of utmost importance to include,” Legislator Aron Wieder tells Rockland Daily. “This has been a long time coming.”

Wieder also mentions that the county will be installing new sidewalks on Highview Road, a project that is from the local county and not part of the $30 million budget. County Executive Ed Day was instrumental in launching the project, and construction is slated to begin soon.
