Loaded Firearm Recovered After Downtown Haverstraw Chase
A routine patrol in Haverstraw’s downtown business district turned into a foot chase Tuesday night, ending with the arrest of a 19-year-old man and the recovery of a loaded gun, police said.
Around 8:00 p.m. on September 2, 2025, Haverstraw Police officers encountered Miciaih Cozart, who was wanted on multiple warrants. Instead of stopping, Cozart ran, leading officers through Main Street and into a nearby park.
During the pursuit, police say Cozart tried to throw away a loaded firearm. Officers quickly secured the weapon and apprehended him.
Cozart was later arraigned in the Village of Haverstraw Justice Court and ordered held at the Rockland County Correctional Facility, with bail set at $25,000 cash or $100,000 bond.
In addition to the warrants, he now faces charges of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of stolen property, and resisting arrest.
Authorities noted that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
