Large Brush Fire Ignites In New Hempstead

The Hillcrest Fire Department swiftly responded to a large brush fire that ignited near Pennington Way and New Hempstead Rd in New Hempstead.

Initial reports indicate that the fire covered an area of approximately 40 by 60 feet and involved a fence. Thanks to the quick and effective response of the Hillcrest Fire Department the flames were safely extinguished, preventing further damage.

The incident comes shortly after a burn ban was put into effect in Rockland County ahead of the annual New York State burn ban, which will be in effect from March 16 through May.
