Yisroel R.
A vehicle went up in flames on the New York State Thruway late Friday night after crashing into a concrete barrier, with the driver seen walking away from the scene moments later.
State Police say the incident happened at around 10:56 p.m. on the southbound side of I-87 in Greenburgh. When troopers arrived, they found the vehicle fully engulfed, while the driver was located nearby on the shoulder of the roadway.
The driver was identified as 35-year-old Tulsiram Singh of Haverstraw. The driver showed signs of intoxication and did not pass sobriety testing at the scene
Investigators say the crash occurred after the vehicle, a Nissan Frontier struck a concrete divider on the Thruway. Authorities also determined that earlier in the evening, the same driver had hit several parked cars at the parking lot of the Palisades Center Mall before continuing onto the highway.
Singh was taken to State Police in Tarrytown, where a chemical test showed a blood alcohol content of 0.21 percent.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated. Police said he was not injured and was later released pending further court proceedings.
