A retired police officer has surrendered to authorities in connection with the deadly shooting of a Rockland County man on the George Washington Bridge Tuesday night.
As reported earlier by Rockland Daily, the shooting occurred Tuesday evening, when a 46-year-old Rockland County Con Edison worker was driving his Volkswagen Golf toward the westbound upper level of the George Washington Bridge.
According to initial reports, the victim nearly collided with another vehicle, leading to an apparent road-rage confrontation during which an occupant of the other vehicle allegedly opened fire, striking the driver.
The victim’s vehicle came to a stop against the median, and emergency responders rushed to the scene. He was transported to Englewood Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The shooting triggered a massive police response, with authorities shutting down the westbound upper level of the bridge for several hours as investigators examined the scene. The roadway reopened shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday.
The suspect initially fled the scene, prompting investigators to review surveillance footage and work to identify the person responsible.
The latest development comes as a retired police officer has now surrendered in connection with the shooting. Further details regarding possible charges have not yet been confirmed.
