Full Details Of Exciting Finkelstein Library Extension

By Idy Perl

Rockand Daily reached out to the administration at Finkelstein Library to get more information about the expansion at the library, which recently started construction with the demolition of the building adjacent to the back of the library

The expansion project, which is funded by state, federal, and local grants, will take place in phases over the next four years. The new 3-story extension will provide space for additional programs to meet the needs of the diverse community that utilizes the library.

The extension will include:

  • Two classrooms for English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction, citizenship classes, job readiness, and other educational programming, to support newcomers and multilingual residents.
  • A versatile Community Room lecture and event space, which will provide a venue for educational talks, cultural events, job fairs, and community forums that foster lifelong learning and civic engagement.
  • Dedicated space for VCS Counseling Services, providing vital mental health resources to the community.
  • A multi-cultural Room providing space for expanded books and other materials to meet the needs of our diverse community.
This construction will also allow the library to reconfigure the existing space and increase the functionality of the library with:
  • Relocating the Custodial Department to allow for an expanded Circulation Department.
  • A new central staircase to serve all three floors, along with a new elevator.
  • An expanded Children’s Room.
  • Additional seating.
