The retired Chief of Detectives at the Rockland District Attorney's Office, Peter Modafferi, has sadly died at the age of 75.

Chief Modafferi worked in law enforcement for a total of 45 years and started his career back in 1972 as an investigator with the Rockland Public Defender's Office. He then worked for 30 years at the Rockland County DA's office, where he helped solve numerous crimes. He was also involved in establishing several investigative units to oversee organized crime, gambling, drugs, and political corruption. Modafferi retired in 2017 as the RCDAO Chief Criminal Investigator.

"There is absolutely no one that had a greater impact on public safety in our community than Pete Modafferi," NYS Supreme Court Judge Tom Zugibe and former Rockland County District Attorney, said . "In the field of law enforcement, this gentleman was a 'prophet in his own land."
