Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on Route 304 in New City Leaves One Dead, Two Seriously Injured

Tragedy struck New City on Monday night, December 23, when a devastating head-on collision on Route 304 near Second Street resulted in one fatality and two serious injuries.
According to the Clarkstown Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. A 2010 black Hyundai sedan, driven by a 35-year-old Ohio resident, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 304 when it collided head-on with a 2013 silver BMW. The BMW was occupied by an 18-year-old male driver and his 16-year-old female passenger.
The force of the collision pushed the Hyundai into the center median and sent the BMW onto the shoulder of the southbound lanes. Emergency crews, including the New City Fire Department, Clarkstown Police, New City Ambulance, Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps, and Rockland Paramedics, worked tirelessly to extricate all three victims from the wreckage.
The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced deceased at the scene. The two occupants of the BMW were transported to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries. Their identities have not been released.
The Clarkstown Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit is actively working to determine the cause of the crash. Authorities are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the accident to contact the Clarkstown Police Detective Bureau at (845) 639-5800.
