Fatal House Fire on Glenmere Road in New City

Fatal House Fire on Glenmere Road in New City

By Y.M. Lowy

Firefighters were dispatched around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to a house fire at 12 Glenmere Road in New City. When crews arrived, they found heavy fire conditions, with flames already breaking through the roof of the home. Firefighters quickly stretched hose lines and began searching the residence while working to bring the fire under control.

As firefighters moved through the residence, they located one occupant inside and removed the individual from the home. Despite rescue efforts, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Because of the intensity of the flames, interior firefighting operations were temporarily stopped so ladder company crews could operate from above and direct water through the roof. This tactic helped bring the fire under control a short time later.

Multiple departments responded to assist, including the New City, Congers, Hillcrest, West Nyack, and Thiells fire departments. New City EMS was also on scene, along with Clarkstown Police, who secured the area and are assisting with the investigation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
