Exit 9W Reopens on the Palisades - But Will Close Again in the Spring
By Yisroel R.
Drivers on the Palisades Parkway can finally breathe a little easier this week as Exit 9W, the ramp connecting PIP South to the Thruway North, has officially reopened after weeks of frustrating detours. The closure forced many local residents to take long, inconvenient alternate routes, and today’s reopening comes as a welcome relief.
But the celebration is only partial. According to information shared with Rockland Daily by the State DOT and individuals involved in the project, the reopening is only for the winter. Crews first closed the exit to begin planned construction work, but once they opened up the site they discovered additional structural issues connected to Route 304 that require a deeper, more complex repair than originally expected.
Because those repairs are difficult, and in some areas unsafe, to complete during the winter months, the DOT decided to pause the project, reopen the exit for the winter season, and reschedule the main construction for the spring. When that work resumes, the exit will need to be closed again for a period of time.
For now, drivers can enjoy the convenience of the reopened ramp, but they should be aware that this is only a winter break in the construction schedule. The real work, the part the DOT discovered after starting the project, will take place once warmer weather returns.
Rockland Daily will continue to follow this story and provide updates as the spring timeline approaches.
