by M.C. Millman

The Community Outreach Center (COC) on Remsen Avenue celebrated a milestone ribbon-cutting event this afternoon, unveiling a new, state-of-the-art handicap-accessible senior citizen bus that will allow more seniors to avail themselves of the multifaceted senior programs offered by the organization.

Attendees included Town of Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht, and Rockland County Legislator Aron Wieder. Kerry Rodriguez from the Office of the Aging was also present, along with numerous seniors eager to see the new bus.

"It is a special pleasure to have so many of our seniors here with us today," Rabbi Hersh Horowitz, Executive Director of COC, said during the event. "The senior program may not be the most significant program we run, but it definitely is the most vital part of the Community Outreach Center. We owe it to our dear seniors to make sure our program offers the most benefits possible."

Reva Shimrof, a Holocaust survivor and regular COC senior program participant, addressed attendees. as did Legislator Wieder and Supervisor Specht.

"Being here today for this ribbon cutting," Rockland County Legislator Wieder shares with Rockland Daily, "and seeing and hearing firsthand from our seniors how much this new bus service will make their lives easier and brighter brings home just how critical funding programs like the COC's senior program is to so many of our elderly residents. The tireless dedication Rabbi Horowitz puts into his endeavors at the Community Outreach Center is truly astonishing. I second what he said earlier - the senior program is the most vital part of the Community Outreach Center's endeavors."

"Very happy to attend the ribbon cutting for the beautiful new wheelchair-accessible senior bus at the Community Outreach Center,"  Supervisor Specht tells Rockland Daily. "The Town of Ramapo was proud to be able to facilitate the purchase of the bus with Community Development Block Grant Cares Act funding. This bus will make it easier for our seniors to attend the programs at COC that provide much-needed activities and exercise and enhance their lives in so many ways. I want to thank Rabbi Horowitz and the COC for always promoting the well-being of our senior residents."
