Chief Heiman Reflects on the 144 Law Enforcement Officers Lost in 2024, Including 18 in New York

As 2025 begins, the United States reflects on the sacrifices of 144 law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2024. These men and women devoted themselves to protecting their communities, embodying courage and service. Tragically, New York experienced the highest number of losses, with 18 officers making the ultimate sacrifice.
Chief Dan Hyman of the Ramapo Police Department addressed this loss in a recent tweet:
“As we welcome a new year, I ask all our followers to take a moment to honor those law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. In 2024, we lost 144 brave officers, with New York leading the nation with 18 fallen heroes. Let us all keep their families, colleagues, and all law enforcement in our thoughts and prayers.
