App Speeds Global Entry Members Through U.S. Customs

App Speeds Global Entry Members Through U.S. Customs

by M.C. Millman

The more than twelve million international travelers who utilize the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's (CBP) Global Entry program will now be able to complete their arrival processing at seven locations via the new Global Entry app instead of waiting for an available Global Entry kiosk.

The new Global Entry app can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Users will need to take a selfie as a first step. Facial biometrics will compare the new photo with the CPB's previous images to verify the user's identity.

After the photo is accepted, a receipt is sent to the user's app. The user can then show that receipt on the app to the CPB officers upon arrival at the main customs inspection area in the airport.

The new Global Entry mobile app is available at seven airports: Miami International Airport, Seattle Tacoma International Airport, Orlando International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport (Houston, Texas), and Pittsburgh International Airport.

The CBP has not yet shared any planned steps or timetable for expanding the program to other airports.
