Aide Convicted After Stealing Over $18,000 From Senior Citizen

By Idy Perl

Last week, a home health aide who had been working in Pearl River was convicted for elder abuse on several charges of Grand Larceny.

The aide, Delores Anderson from the Bronx, was employed at a senior assisted living complex in Pearl River for around eight months. On May 5, 2023, she threatened an elderly patient with a knife and forced him to write several checks in her name. On July 25, Anderson held a knife to the victim's stomach and forced him to write several more checks, totaling over $18,000. The aide deposited all the checks and stole the money from the 78-year-old patient.

“We always stand ready to protect our seniors from those who prey on their vulnerabilities," Rockland DA Thomas Walsh said. "This defendant not only violated a position of trust in this theft but threatened this elderly victim with a knife in his own home. Our senior citizens can be assured that the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office is committed to protecting them from violence and abuse and will vigorously prosecute any offenders. This conduct will not be tolerated in Rockland County."
