Advanced Firefighter Training Expands in Rockland County
By Y.M. Lowy
Rockland firefighters will soon be able to complete advanced certification training without having to travel outside the county.
The Rockland County Fire and Emergency Services recently hosted Instructor Authorizations for its State Fire Instructors assigned to Rockland. That approval now allows those instructors to teach state-certified courses locally, opening the door to expanded training opportunities right here at home.
With the authorization in place, officials say the long-awaited Firefighter II course will soon be offered in Rockland County.
Firefighter II builds on the fundamentals learned in earlier training and moves into more advanced skills, including leadership roles on the fireground and more complex emergency operations. It is designed to prepare firefighters to operate at a higher level and take on greater responsibility within their departments.
Until now, many volunteers had to travel to other counties to complete the course. Bringing it to Rockland is expected to make the program more accessible, encourage broader participation, and strengthen the county’s overall fire service.
Additional details about the course rollout are expected soon.
