Women’s Health Center Set to be Built in Spring Valley: to Serve Uninsured Families

A state-of-the-art women’s health center is set to be built on the site of an old playground near the Refuah Health Center in Spring Valley, thanks to the efforts of US Rep. Mondaire Jones and NY Sen. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, which secured $2 million of federal funding to serve uninsured families in Jones’ hometown.

“This project's going to change lives and give Lower Hudson Valley women and moms the affordable health care they need," said Sen. Schumer, who spoke between colorful balloons that rose into the air at a celebratory event at Refuah Health Center at 728 N. Main Street in Spring Valley on Friday.

The 10,000 square-foot Refuah Health Center of Excellence for Women's Health, which is expected to take 16 months to build, will focus on providing infertility, obstetrics, and other women’s healthcare, said Rep. Jones, a freshman congressman who has represented NY’s 17th congressional district since 2021.

“The new center will serve underserved women and their families in a local, caring, and comprehensive environment,” says Refuah’s website. 

“Local women and families are more likely to struggle with infertility than women across New York State and throughout the nation, said Chanie Sternberg, President and CEO of Refuah Health.

Sternberg said that RefuahHealth wants to make Center of Excellence for Women’s Health “a place where our community not only gets top notch care, but also compassionate care that makes them feel safe and welcome: regardless of cultural background or socio-economic status.”

Remembering Refuah’s health vans that went out last year to vaccinate Rockland residents, state. Sen. Elijah Sen. Reichlin-Melnick said, “That is what Refuah does: they help everyone.

“They help all comers: whether or not you have insurance. They are here for people in our community.”

“This new center will help women in Rockland County to have safe and healthy deliveries,” state Sen. Reichlin-Melnick said. “Nothing could be more important for our community.
