Village of Pomona Holds Menorah Lighting for Last Night of Chanukah

by M.C. Millman
The Village of Pomona held its first-ever public menorah lighting at the Pomona Village Hall on Ladentown Road.
The event was attended by Town of Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht and Town of Haverstraw Supervisor Howard Phillips, as well as Legislator Paul Clairy, former State Senator Elijah Melnick, Mayor of Pomona Ilan Fuchs, and Mayor of Wesley Hills Marshall Katz, Village of Pomona Deputy Mayor Mendy Lasker, Village of Spring Valley Deputy Mayor Israel Eisenbach, NRSP Chief Shimi Teicher and trustees and residents of the village.
"The menorah symbolizes the Jewish people's existence from thousands of years ago until now," Supervisor Specht shared with attendees. "It symbolizes and reminds us that thousands of years ago, the most powerful empires of the world wanted the Jewish people to disappear and give up their religion and their culture and vanish as Jews. And now we’re here today that empire has vanished. The empire is gone, and the Jewish people are stronger than ever. Thousands of years from now, we will still be lighting the menorah every night."
Supervisor Specht was given the honor of making the brachos and lighting the menorah.
