Village of Nyack Reminds Residents: Recycling Food Scraps Is Simple

By Y.M. Lowy

The Village of Nyack is reminding residents that recycling food scraps is easy and encourages everyone to follow these steps:

Start by collecting food scraps in a small bin on your countertop or under the sink. Line the bin with Rockland Green’s compostable brown bags, which are available at Nyack Village Hall and Nyack Library during working hours.

Once your small bin is full, transfer the bagged scraps into a larger white or green bin and store it until you’re ready to drop it off.

Residents can drop off bagged food scraps at Nyack’s Food Scrap Drop-off Site at 63 Catherine Street, located next to the gates at the front of the building.

Accepted items include fruits and vegetables (remove stickers, bands, and ties), meat and poultry, fish, dairy products, bread, pasta, rice, grains, eggshells, chips, snacks, beans, nuts, seeds, flowers, tea bags, coffee grounds and leftover or spoiled food. Plastic, glass, metal, and kitchenware are not accepted.
