Urgent Zoom Meeting Held to Combat NY State's Unconstitutional Tax Hike on East Ramapo

In response to the shocking, undemocratic  and unconstitutional decision yesterday by the New York State Commissioner of Education, Betty Rosa, to arbitrarily impose an additional 4.38% tax increase on the tax payers of the East Ramapo School District, an urgent Zoom meeting was convened at 7 pm yesterday evening between Askanim, local officials from across the political aisle, community leaders, and legal counsel.

At this meeting, the newly formed community  group called Parents Against Stealth Taxes ("PAST") announced that without delay they will be bringing a legal challenge on behalf of the District's tax payers to overturn this unjust ruling.

Pro bono counsel has been retained to provide legal representation at no charge to PAST to prevent the disregard of the rights and will of the voters and disenfranchisement of our entire community. PAST goal is to protect the future of our district taxpayers. A united response to this unjust and illegal act is paramount . Our community leaders are working together on our behalf and many details and updates will follow.”
