Upcoming Water Main Replacement Road Closure to Affect Union Road in Spring Valley

Upcoming Water Main Replacement Road Closure to Affect Union Road in Spring Valley

By M.C. Millman

Veolia Water plans to replace a six-inch water main on Union  Road near Stone House Drive with a twelve-inch water main - the original plan being to start on Monday, June 5.

The start date has been put on hold until better coordination can be worked out, according to Village of Spring Valley Trustee Sruly Eisenbach.

Eisenbach and Village Trustee Asher Grossman requested a site visit this afternoon to discuss what can be done to help alleviate the traffic headache the five-to-six-week closure of Union Road from Viola Road to Maple Avenue will cause drivers.

“I requested a site visit after we had a conference call that did not end on a promising note,” Eisenbach shares with Rockland Daily. “At the site visit, Asher Grossman and I explained the situation and offered some options. Instead of closing the whole street, we suggested they work from seven at night until seven in the morning to minimize disruption. A second option was allowing one-way traffic whenever possible while not starting work until after ten in the morning. I also offered to coordinate with the schools affected by the roadwork, which they hadn’t even thought about. I think they understand what we’re asking and are definitely willing to work with us at this point which is a great achievement.”
