Town of Ramapo Ready for Next Steps to Alleviate Traffic Issues in Spring Valley Area

by M.C. Millman

After meeting with all municipal officials last August in a meeting spearheaded by Congressman Mike Lawler, as reported by Rockland Daily here, the Town of Ramapo's traffic study has been completed, enabling officials to decide the next steps for alleviating traffic within the Spring Valley area.

"Our engineering consultants have recently completed their study of the Elm/Anthony/Union Road intersections that we requested after the initial meeting," Town of Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht shares with Rockland Daily, "and we have shared their findings and reccomendations with Congressman Lawler's office and the Village of Spring Valley. I look forward to working together now with Village officials to implement and expedite the work needed to address these traffic issues."

"We held a roundtable on traffic problems here in the Village of Spring Valley and in Unincorporated Ramapo at the intersection between Elm and Union," Congressman Lawler told Rockland Daily last August. "Obviously we've had a lot of accidents in recent years, and we want to try to mitigate that, especially as the pedestrian population continues to increase as well as the traffic, vehicular traffic. So, that is one important area. We're going to try to work together, get a traffic study done between the Town and the Village to provide a long-term solution for the intersections at Elm and Union..."

"I want to commend Congressman Lawler and especially District Director Rafi Silberberg, who went to so much effort to arrange this critical meeting for his constituent," Village of Spring Valley Trustee Yisroel Eisenbach reiterates what he told Rockland Daily in August. "We appreciate that the Congressman is always looking out for the community and understand and appreciate how much effort went into arranging the progress that has been made thus far in this endeavor for our Village. We are hoping that the Congressman can arrange for a grant as well to help with the million-dollar cost of this critical project."
