Town of Ramapo Officials Address Route 306 Traffic Concerns as Sidewalk Work Moves Forward
By Y.M. Lowy
Drivers traveling along Route 306 should continue to expect significant traffic delays as sidewalk construction progresses.
The Town of Ramapo told Rockland Daily that the project, which has been long anticipated by local residents, is expected to continue through mid-August. Work is currently taking place Monday through Thursday each week, with no construction scheduled on Fridays. The ongoing construction has already led to heavy traffic backups and slower travel times.
While officials acknowledge the inconvenience, they say the delays are unavoidable as crews work to complete the much-needed sidewalk improvements.
The project has been in the planning stages for some time and is now finally moving forward. Once completed, the new sidewalks are expected to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility along Route 306.
Drivers should allow extra travel time and avoid the area when possible during construction hours.
Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht confirmed to Rockland Daily that he asked the Ramapo Police Department to review the traffic situation. According to Specht, officers observed the area and reported that traffic is being properly flagged through the construction zone and continues to move. Police determined that the traffic-control procedures currently in place are appropriate for this type of project and that emergency vehicles can access the area when needed.
The Ramapo Police Department is also notifying emergency service agencies about the ongoing work and advising them to use alternate routes when possible. Officials stated that they do not believe the construction is creating any hazardous conditions or causing undue delays beyond what is expected for a project of this nature.
Rockland Daily will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.
