Town of Ramapo Issues Urgent Weather Alert Ahead of Upcoming Snowstorm

By Yisroel R.

Town of Ramapo officials are urging residents to prepare in advance as a widespread snowstorm is expected to bring extreme cold temperatures, heavy snowfall, and difficult travel conditions later this weekend.

According to the Ramapo Highway Department, Saturday will be dry but extremely cold, with temperatures ranging between –5°F and 6°F. Wind chills could drop as low as –20°F, creating hazardous conditions for extended time outdoors.

Snow is expected to begin early Sunday morning, developing around 3 to 4 a.m. and intensifying as the day progresses. Officials say snowfall could become moderate to heavy by Sunday afternoon, with visibility dropping below half a mile at times.

The heaviest snow is expected from Sunday afternoon through early Monday morning. Total accumulations could reach 8 to 12 inches by Sunday evening, with the potential to increase to 12 to 16 inches by Monday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to gradually rise into the mid-teens by Monday, with snow tapering off Monday evening as winds increase.

Northwest winds are forecast to strengthen, with sustained winds of 8 to 10 mph and gusts exceeding 20 mph, which could lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility. Town officials say residents should stay informed and plan ahead as conditions develop.
