TOMORROW MORNING: Indian Point Issues Siren Test Warning

By Rockland Daily Staff

Indian Point Energy Center has issued a test siren warning for Rockland, Westchester, Putnam, and Orange Counties for Wednesday, June 14, at approximately 10:30 a.m.

The sirens sounding is only a test; no action by the public is necessary as both nuclear plants have shut down and are defueled. The test is a requirement until a new emergency plan is approved by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

In the case of an actual emergency at the nuclear power plants, the sirens would sound continuously at full volume for four minutes, followed by activation of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on radio and television stations to broadcast important information and instructions.

The sirens are not a signal to evacuate; rather, they are intended to alert the public to tune in to an EAS radio or TV station for important information.
