Hundreds of Thousands from throughout the country—but especially the northeast—are converging on the United States Capitol in an event reminiscent of the Rabbis March on Washington eighty years ago, when 400 rabbonim petitioned the American government to rally to the aid of European Jewry.
The “March for Israel” is organized by the Jewish Federations of North America and Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations—with the purpose of transmitting the voice of American Jewry to its elected officials, exhorting them to remain steadfast in their support of Israel, as well as to demand that they do everything in their power to bring back the 2490 hostages taken by Hamas, ym”sh.
“We want Congress, first of all, to continue in its very strong support of Israel to defend itself,” the Orthodox Union’s Rabbi Moshe Hauer told Fox News. “We want Congress and… everyone in the world, when they speak about humanitarianism, to spend three minutes speaking about the hostages before speaking about safe passages – which the Israelis are busy doing.”
The day began with a moving shacharis led by Benny Weber.
The National Guard will be assisting D.C. Police with crowd control and road closures during the demonstration.
While the rally officially begins at 1:00 p.m., thousands have been streaming into the capitol since the early hours of the morning on this clear autumn day, and thousands participated in Rosh Chodesh davening outside the White House gates early in the morning.
The rally comes at a time when American Yidden continues to witness an unprecedented rise in antisemitic expression all around the country in the aftermath of the horrific events of Simchas Torah.
