Leaders of ”The Eiruv of Monsey” held a meeting today with the New York State Thruway Authority to review ongoing operations and discuss safety and coordination along key sections of the Eruv that run through major highways.

The meeting included Harav Chaim M. Steinmetz, menahel of The Eiruv of Monsey, along with haskan Rabbi Berish Freilich Law Enforcement Chaplain, Abe Rosenberg Hatzoloh coordinator, and haskan Yossi Rubinstein. The meeting was described as ‘very successful’, focusing on maintaining and strengthening coordination with the Thruway Authority.

A central topic was the stretch of the Eruv that spans approximately 22 miles from Suffern to Chestnut Ridge, including areas along the NYS Thruway and the Garden State Parkway. In these sections, specially installed gates are used as part of the Eruv infrastructure, requiring ongoing oversight and cooperation with state authorities.

At the meeting they reviewed routine seasonal maintenance, including inspections conducted after the winter months to check for fallen trees or damage that could impact the Eruv. Safety procedures, legal considerations, and proper access to these areas were also discussed.

The meeting also served as an opportunity to establish working relationships with new personnel at the Thruway Authority, ensuring continued coordination moving forward, as the strong relationship is ongoing for 18 years already, with the hope to continue and build on this partnership. In addition, discussions included the possibility of Thruway Authority support for maintaining or upgrading certain infrastructure, including the gates used along the route, These fences are a safety manner to keep residents off the highway.

Separately, haskan Berish Freilich raised potential improvements related to the nearby Mincha area along the Thruway, as part of broader conversations with the officials.

Organizers emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation to ensure the Eruv remains properly maintained and accessible while meeting all safety and regulatory requirements.
