Tallman Man Arrested After Route 59 Traffic Stop Leads To Major Drug Discovery

Yisroel R.

What began as a routine traffic stop on Route 59 Thursday afternoon quickly turned into a major drug discovery and felony arrest after a Ramapo Police officer pulled over a Tesla for dangerous driving.

Police said the driver used a left-turn-only lane to pass a line of stopped vehicles before moving into oncoming traffic and cutting back into the proper lane, forcing other motorists to stop to avoid crashing.

During the stop, an officer from the Ramapo Police Department’s Special Operations Unit noticed several prescription pill bottles inside the vehicle. Police said the driver attempted to conceal one of the bottles, prompting the officer to investigate further.

A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered approximately 40 LSD tabs, a digital scale, a large psilocybin mushroom, two glass pipes containing suspected drug residue, and an open bottle of vodka.

The 29-year-old Tallman resident was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, an A-II felony, along with criminal possession of a hallucinogen and another drug possession charge. He was also issued three traffic tickets related to the driving violations.

Following his arraignment in Airmont Justice Court, the suspect was remanded to the Rockland County Jail.
