Tallman Fire Department Conducts Ice Water Rescue Training

By Yisroel R.

The Tallman Fire Department conducted an ice water rescue training exercise Monday evening as part of its regular weekly drill schedule.

The training focused on operating safely in icy conditions, including rescuer self-rescue techniques and coordinated methods for removing victims from cold water. Firefighters practiced controlled approaches, proper use of rescue equipment, and clear communication among crews during simulated winter rescue scenarios involving frozen ponds and waterways.

The exercise was held at Kathryn Gorman Park with approval from the Village of Montebello. The department thanked the village for allowing use of the location for training purposes.

Officials said regular training helps ensure firefighters remain prepared for seasonal hazards and complex rescue situations. Residents interested in volunteering with the Tallman Fire Department are encouraged to visit the firehouse on Mondays at 7:00 p.m. to learn more about joining the department.
