Suspect Apprehended After String of Burglaries in Village of Airmont

In the early hours of Tuesday, May 21, 2024, the Village of Airmont was disrupted as reports of a burglary surfaced.

At approximately 3:00 a.m., the owner of a local business alerted the Ramapo Police Department after receiving an alert from their security cameras. Upon reviewing the footage, officers identified an unknown individual inside the premises. Thanks to the keen eye of an RPD officer, the suspect, a 27-year-old male from Spring Valley, was swiftly apprehended later that morning.

The suspect, found in possession of stolen property from the commercial building, was charged with Burglary 3rd, Criminal Trespass 2nd, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th, and Petit Larceny. Following arraignment by Judge Schoenberger of the Town of Ramapo Justice Court, he was remanded to Rockland County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond.

However, the ordeal did not end there. Just hours later, at around 5:00 p.m. on the same day, another business owner in the Village of Airmont reported a similar incident. Security footage revealed the same suspect entering their premises and stealing an item from a box in the hallway at approximately 5:15 a.m. The thorough investigation by RPD officers confirmed the identity of the suspect and his possession of the stolen item at the time of his arrest.

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, further charges were laid against the suspect for the second incident, including Burglary 3rd, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd, and Grand Larceny 3rd degree. He was processed at Rockland County Jail and issued an appearance ticket for a future court date.

It is important to emphasize that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
