Rockland Daily Staff

The Ramapo Police are investigating what may have been an attempted kidnapping that occurred on Thursday, September 22, near North Airmont Road and Spook Rock Road.

A bearded male, wearing yellow clothing, and driving a gray sedan, drove up to an 11-year-old student waiting for her school bus between 7:15 a.m. and 7:40 a.m.

According to reports, the man driving the vehicle told the student that he knew her mother and that her mother asked him to drive her to school. In response, the child ran from the vehicle. The man fled westbound in his car on North Airmont Road.

The girl’s mother later confirmed that she had not asked anyone to give her daughter a ride to school. This incident is under investigation by Ramapo Police Department Detectives.

Parents should constantly remind their children of the importance of remaining aware of their surroundings when waiting for the school bus.

Ramapo Police said they would increase police presence at school bus stop locations throughout the town. They also request that anyone with information regarding this incident contact them.
