Statement from Town Supervisor and Ramapo Police Chief on Recent Spate of Vehicle Break-ins Throughout Rockland

Rockland Daily Staff

Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht and Ramapo Police Chief Martin Reilly issued a joint statement regarding the recent spate of vehicle break-ins in recent weeks over Shabbos in a number of neighborhoods.

"To help protect yourself against being victimized by such incidents and to help the Ramapo Police Department in its investigation of these break-ins," their statement reads, "please do the following.

  • Keep your vehicle locked, and do not leave valuables in it.
  • Set the video cameras on your property to the correct date and time.
  • In case of a break-in, call the Police Department immediately or as soon as possible.
  • Contacting the police is important because your timely information, including possible video evidence, may help the Police Department track down and arrest the perpetrators of break-ins in the area.
  • If you are not calling as the break-in is in progress, use the PD's seven-digit number at 845-357-2400.

The Ramapo Police Department and its partners in law enforcement are taking proactive measures to help stem this problem, and timely information from the public can help the police department deploy the appropriate resources to help stop these incidents and arrest those responsible for them."
