State Road Renamed for Fallen Volunteer Firefighter

Rockland Daily Staff

Family, friends, and elected officials gathered in Spring Valley on Monday, October 17, to unveil new road signs identifying a portion of Route 45 renamed for a fallen Spring Valley hero. The Firefighter Jared Lloyd Memorial Highway was renamed for Firefight Lloyd, who lost his life on March 23, 2021, while saving the lives of residents of the Evergreen Court Adult Home in Spring Valley.

Firefighter Lloyd, a member of Columbian Fire Engine Co. No. 1, and his fellow first responders saved about 100 people before he was killed in the line of duty when a portion of the building collapsed.

The newly named roadway on Route 45 falls between New Hempstead and East Eckerson Roads.
