Spring Valley Police Department Releases Details on This Morning's Route 59 Fatality

At approximately 4:20 a.m., the Spring Valley Police Dept responded to a call at 189 East Route 59 in the Village of Spring Valley for a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries, as reported by Rockland Daily here. 

Upon arrival, responding units discovered an unresponsive male lying in the roadway next to a tractor-trailer. The unresponsive male, 41-year-old Spring Valley, was pronounced dead at the scene by Rockland Paramedics. His name is being withheld, pending notification to next of kin. 

A preliminary investigation by the Spring Valley Police Department revealed a tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound on Route 59 while the pedestrian was walking south across Route 59 when the accident occurred. 

Due to the nature of the accident, the Clarkstown Police Department, Accident Reconstruction Unit, and the Rockland County Sheriffs Bureau of Criminal Investigations was requested to assist in the investigation. As a result of the investigation, Route 59 from Route 45 to Dutch Lane was closed for an extended period of time but has since opened. 

The operator of the tractor-trailer, a 52-year-old resident of New Rochelle, remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
