Spring Valley Brothers Sentenced to Federal Prison for Fentanyl Trafficking and Firearms Violations

Two local residents, Jonathan Alvarez, 29, and Edwin Alvarez, 30, have been sentenced to five years in federal prison, with three years of supervised release, following convictions for possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking.

The case, investigated jointly by the Spring Valley Police Department, New York State Police Troop F Violent Gang Narcotics Enforcement Team, the FBI NY Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, and other agencies, revealed that the brothers were distributing Fentanyl pills disguised as M30 Oxycodone Hydrochloride pills in the Spring Valley area.

Authorities first became aware of the alleged drug trafficking in July 2023 and launched a months-long investigation. A December 2023 search warrant uncovered numerous Fentanyl pills, multiple firearms, ammunition, a bulletproof vest, and U.S. currency. Additional firearms and narcotics were discovered following a March 2024 response to reported gunfire in the Tallman Place and Seabring Street area.

In February 2025, the brothers were taken into custody on federal charges of narcotics conspiracy and possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking and were remanded to U.S. Marshals custody.

On September 11, 2025, both Jonathan and Edwin Alvarez were convicted and sentenced.

The Spring Valley Police Department thanked all agencies involved, including the New York State Police, Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI NY Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, for their role in the investigation and prosecution.
