Spring Valley Announces New Recycling and Yard Waste Pickup Schedule

Spring Valley Announces New Recycling and Yard Waste Pickup Schedule

By Y.M. Lowy

Residents in the Village of Spring Valley will soon see important changes to recycling and yard waste collection, as a new sanitation contract goes into effect on May 1.

The most noticeable change will be the recycling schedule. Pickup will now take place on Saturdays instead of Wednesdays. The update applies to both commingled recyclables, such as cans and bottles, as well as paper and cardboard.

Many households receive deliveries later in the week, leaving boxes and packaging sitting at the curb for days. By moving pickup to Saturday, the goal is to reduce clutter and keep streets cleaner throughout the week.

Residents are encouraged to put out their recycling Friday night before the zman, and to do so neatly. Boxes should be flattened, folded, and placed in an orderly way at the curb to make collection easier and keep the neighborhood looking presentable.

In addition, the new contract includes a structured schedule for yard waste collection. Going forward, yard waste will be picked up once a week on Wednesdays, from April 1 through December 31 each year.

Yard waste should not be mixed together. Grass clippings, leaves, and brush must be separated. All materials must be placed in biodegradable paper bags, not plastic or regular garbage bags. These approved bags are available free of charge from the village. For loose brush, branches must be cut to no more than four feet in length, bundled, and tied with twine before being placed at the curb. Items that do not follow these guidelines may not be collected.

Rockland Green is reminding residents that following these rules helps keep the system running smoothly and ensures timely service for everyone.

Deputy Mayor Sruly Eisenbach noted that the changes have been in the works for some time. “This is something I’ve been working on for a long time, and with the new contract, we were finally able to get it done,” he said, pointing to the expected improvement in cleanliness and overall efficiency.

Residents are encouraged to take note of the new schedule and guidelines as the changes take effect, helping keep Spring Valley’s streets cleaner and more organized.
