Spring Hill Ambulance Corp Holds Extrication Training Event

Spring Hill Ambulance Corp Holds Extrication Training Event
Yesterday, Spring Hill Community Ambulance Corp held two separate extrication trainings for members.

The training was held with a focus on having members respond to a motor vehicle accident (MVA) scenario where multiple patients were injured, and resources were limited.

Members practiced the critical skills of doing a scene size up, triaging multiple critical patients, treating life-threatening conditions, administering emergency medical care in confined spaces, and collaborating with other first responders. Spring Hill's operation supervisors improved their skills in initiating EMS command, obtaining additional resources, staging resources, and smooth EMS operations, all while utilizing a unified command structure.

Once the patients were extricated from the vehicle, they were placed in an ambulance where Spring Hill's Medical Director, Dr. Mao, acted as an emergency room provider and helped ensure appropriate care was provided and allowed the members to do a proper transition of care to the "Emergency Department."

Spring Hill conducts multiple trainings annually, ensuring its members stay sharp in the skills necessary to allow volunteers to best care for those who need the ambulance corp's services in the Towns of Ramapo and Clarkstown.

Sloatsburg and Spring Valley Fire Departments, Nanuet EMS, and the Ramapo Police Department also participated in the training.
