Senator Bill Weber Joins Call on Governor Hochul to Remove Manhattan DA Bragg From Office

New York State Senator Bill Weber penned his name along with nineteen other New York State Senate Republicans in a letter sent yesterday urging Governor Kathy Hochul to exercise her power under the State Constitution and the Public Officers Law to remove Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg from office due to his continued unwillingness to take criminals off the street.

"Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s unconscionable handling of the recent attack on two NYPD officers by a gang of migrants outside of a Times Square shelter must be the final straw," Senator Weber shares with Rockland Daily.  "The public safety of New Yorkers is clearly at risk. My New York State Senate Republicans colleagues and I sent a letter urging Governor Kathy Hochul to exercise her power under the State Constitution and the Public Officers Law to remove District Attorney Bragg from office."

The straw that broke the camel's back was the district attorney's handling of the recent attack on two NYPD officers by a gang of migrants outside of a Times Square shelter this week when five of the six suspects who pummeled two police officers were arrested but then released without bail shortly thereafter. 

"It is clear that DA Bragg has no interest in prosecuting criminals and no desire to support law enforcement, which in turn makes New York less safe," the senators wrote to the governor.  "We need a district attorney that will enforce the law and do what is necessary to not only get the criminals off the street but also send a message that lawlessness will not be tolerated.

"DA Bragg is failing at performing the basic duties of a position, and for the safety of New Yorkers, you must remove him from the office of Manhattan district attorney immediately."
