Route 59 Reopened After Sinkhole Closure in Airmont
By Y.M. Lowy
State Route 59 in the Village of Airmont has reopened after being temporarily closed due to a developing sinkhole.
The closure took place yesterday along Route 59 between Brookside Avenue and Campbell Avenue/Hemion Road, after a large pothole worsened. Town of Ramapo Police said the sinkhole appeared to be expanding across the roadway, with officials shutting down the area while it was evaluated.
The New York State Department of Transportation was notified and responded overnight to make repairs.
According to Ramapo Police, the roadway was fully reopened by 11:55 p.m. Drivers can now travel through the area as usual
