Rockland Writes: “A Disaster Waiting to Happen” - Dangerous Conditions at Forshay Road Crossing

To the Editor of Rockland Daily,

I wanted to bring up a serious issue that, in my opinion, thousands of residents agree with, and honestly I’m shocked nobody has publicly addressed it yet.

Every single day, thousands of people cross Forshay Road from the large parking lot across from 18 Forshay in order to get to daven. This has become part of daily life for so many residents, yet there is still no proper crosswalk, no crossing guard, no traffic light, and no real safety protection in place - only a few traffic cones sitting in the middle of a busy main road.

Forshay Road is not some small side street. Cars travel through there constantly, often at high speeds, and it is extremely dangerous to have thousands of pedestrians, including children and elderly people, forced to cross without any real safety measures. It makes absolutely no sense that such a heavily used crossing area has been ignored for this long.

What is even more concerning is that this situation has been visible to local officials for a long time, yet even the most basic pedestrian safety measures still have not been installed. Residents are asking how long people will continue risking their safety before meaningful action is finally taken.

We have already heard of multiple pedestrians being struck in that area. So what exactly is the town waiting for? A fatality? A tragedy big enough to finally force action?

This is no longer a minor inconvenience - it is a major public safety issue affecting thousands of residents on a daily basis. The longer this continues, the more irresponsible it becomes.

Something needs to be done immediately before someone loses their life, ch"v.
