Rockland Rabbonim Gather to Address Wedding Expenses Crisis

YS GOLD

A historic asifah took place in Monsey on Sunday afternoon, where prominent rabbonim from throughout the greater Monsey community gathered to address a burning crisis of the skyrocketing wedding costs which greatly affect so many in Klal Yisroel.

The meeting was called by the Motzoh Tov organization which has saved families in the Rockland community an astounding $6,000,000 in the last year alone at the time of their wedding!

In the course of their research Motzoh Tov has determined that over 80% of families in the community—balebatish people who earn well— are unable to make a wedding without going into debt. If not by their first child, then by their second or third child’s wedding.

The purpose of the meeting was for the rabbonim to come together to find ways to help alleviate this burning problem—as they are the usually the first address for struggling mechutanim, and are often called upon to help raise money for people who cannot afford the exorbitant costs of weddings.

In addition to identifying areas where standards and costs can be brought down drastically, Motzoh Tov has opened the Harmony showroom beneath the Atrium Hall where families can purchase many wedding provisions at below-wholesale prices. This endeavor is a partnership between askonim and philanthropists who care deeply about assisting families in the community make their weddings affordably.

It is estimated that making a wedding through the Motzoh Tov program will enable parents to marry off their children at the cost of $43,000- $55,000.

At the asifah it was decided that a larger gathering for all Rockland residents will take place following Pesach at which new standards will be announced—bringing thousands of families in the community on board with this new revolution, opening a new chapter for the entire community.

The rabbonim signed a proclamation giving voice to the heartache that is felt by so many families at the time of their greatest joy.

Klal Yisroel eagerly awaits the outcome of these efforts—once and for all breaking through this crisis for the future of the residents of Rockland and beyond.
