Rockland Participates in Communitywide Clothing Drive to Benefit Evacuees in Eretz Yisroel

by M.C. Millman

A Rockland-wide community clothing drive benefitting families in Eretz Yisroel is currently underway through Sunday.

The drive collects clothes for men, women, boys, and girls. Items requested include warm pajamas, hats, gloves, scarves, warm socks, underwear, undershirts, thermal undershirts, rainproof winter coats, fleece jackets, and shirts. The drive is accepting new items only. Letters of love and encouragement are also welcome.

"There are so many who have asked why there is such a need for us to send items to Eretz Yisroel, such as what we are collecting for this distribution," Mordechia Roizman, founder of Olam Chesed/World of Giving, explains exclusively to Rockland Daily. "The answer is that as the people in Israel continue enduring the relentless bombardment of rockets, and evacuations are accelerating, more than 100,000 are already homeless - often with only the shirts on their backs. These evacuees left behind every item of clothing and the myriad basics needed for daily life.

"The State of Israel has no more accommodations to offer the evacuees and is now placing them in empty school buildings and in halls. Kol Yisrael areivim ze laze!. It is our responsibility to share their burden and help ease their hardships! These collections allow us to send what is needed and unite in showing we care, and we are with them in tzara."

People can place items in bins at the location of their choice. Participating communities include Forshay, New Hempstead, Pomona Heights, Stony Point, Pomona, Thiells, Chestnut Ridge, Wesley Hills, Monsey, Pleasant Ridge, Montebello New City, Airmont and Haverstraw at the addresses on the flyer posted here.

The clothing drive ends Sunday, October 29, at 4 p.m. The donations will then be shipped and distributed to the evacuees from the North and South presently in Eretz Yisroel, who were forced to leave their homes and everything they had behind. The drive is particularly imperative as winter draws closer, as many evacuees have nothing in the way of winter wear after fleeing their homes.

The items collected during the drive will be shipped and distributed under the auspices of Olam Chesed/World of Giving, whose expertise in all logistical aspects is necessary to ensure the donations reach the appropriate destination without being delayed.

This is not the first collection for our brethren in Eretz Yisroel. Olam Chesed/World of Giving has been shipping crates multiple times each week, including last week's major distribution to evacuees from Kfar Maimon, three miles from the Gaza border. The organization plans to continue doing more of the same as long as it is needed.

To participate in future drives or to help fund the tremendous expense of shipping the crates to Eretz Yisroel, visit Olam Chesed/World of Giving here.
