Rockland Hazmat Teams Train for High-Risk Propane Emergencies

By Y.M. Lowy

Rockland County Fire and Emergency Services Hazmat Team joined forces with the Westchester County Hazmat Team for a hands-on training focused on flare-offs.

When a propane storage tank is damaged and no longer safe, the gas can’t just be released into the air. Instead, trained teams set up controlled systems to safely burn off the propane. This process reduces danger and protects nearby homes and businesses.

Joint exercises like this strengthen coordination, improve response times, and make sure everyone is on the same page when it counts.
