Rockland Eruv Stands Ready for Shabbos After Repair and Upgrade of Six Issues

By YS Gold

As Shabbos approaches, the Rockland Eruv once again reflects the incredible work that it takes to sustain it week after week. The Monsey Eruv and its surrounding sections were thoroughly inspected as of Thursday, January 15, 2026, and the mashgichim logged six issues into the monitoring system. Of these, three required active repair, while the remainder involved upgrades and preventative improvements—an encouraging sign of overall stability.

Across the Montebello section of the eruv, several routine but essential repairs were completed. Along Route 202, a PVC lechi (halachically-approved pole) damaged by a truck was promptly repaired, and a second misaligned lechi was reset to ensure proper positioning beneath the wire. On Spook Rock Road, a lechi that had shifted was restored to its correct place.

In Monsey, attention turned to Viola Road, where a tree branch had begun pushing the wire out of alignment. The obstruction was cleared, and the wire now runs straight once again. In the Spring Valley Rambam section, a damaged cap on Chestnut Ridge Road had caused the string to shift. A new cap was installed, restoring proper tension and alignment. Meanwhile, in New City, the team addressed an issue on New Hampstead Road, reattaching a cable that had come loose from the top of a PVC lechi and securing it under a more stable wire.

Beyond repairs, this week marked notable progress in long-term infrastructure. On Route 306 near Meron Road and Kearsing Parkway, the completion of a retaining wall and fencing allowed the Eruv team to install five new galvanized metal posts. These improvements bring the Eruv line to the street front, enhancing visibility and durability while eliminating reliance on lines that once passed through private backyards. A similar upgrade was completed in Spring Valley at Union Road and Aselin Drive, where four new galvanized posts now significantly strengthen that sector.

A major highlight for the Rockland community is the establishment of a new Rambam Eruv section serving the Weiner Drive, Crest, and Calvert area. This section includes an important upgrade with the installation of massive new poles that no longer run through people's backyards. No property will need to be rented, and this is a major upgrade according to halachah.

With all identified issues addressed before Shabbos, the general status of the Rockland Eruv is clear and reassuring. Once again, through careful inspection and timely repairs, the Eruv stands ready—quietly supporting Jewish life across Monsey and the surrounding communities.
