Rockland County to Host Prestigious 911 Center Manager Certification Program

By Akivah W.

The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Communications Division has announced that it will host the Center Manager Certification Program (CMCP), a specialized training program for 9-1-1 call center managers and supervisors. The program, offered by the National Emergency Number Association (NENA), will take place August 17–21, 2026, at the Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona.

The CMCP is a rigorous 40-hour course designed for current and prospective managers and supervisors of Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), which handle 9-1-1 emergency calls. Registration costs $1,325, with a discounted rate of $1,115 for NENA members.

“This is a selective program offered at only a few locations nationwide each year,” said the Sheriff’s Office. “We are proud to host the CMCP in 2026, providing local professionals the opportunity to gain advanced knowledge and skills in managing emergency communications centers.”

The course curriculum covers a broad range of topics essential for 9-1-1 center leadership, including:

  • Leadership vs. management
  • Defining a PSAP’s culture
  • Organizational structure design
  • Business communications and media relations
  • Legal and risk management issues
  • Staffing and quality assurance
  • Systems, technology, and project management
  • Finance, procurement, and continuity of operations
  • Industry best practices

The CMCP is considered challenging to find, particularly in the New York area, making this a unique opportunity for emergency services personnel. Those interested are encouraged to review the program and consider registering.
