Red Flag Warning In Effect In Rockland County

By Idy Perl

The National Weather Service has placed a Red Flag Warning of potential wildfires on Rockland County, in addition to the entire Lower Hudson Valley and NYC, that is in effect until tonight.

A Red Flag Warning indicates the high risk of a fire starting due to weather conditions. The combination of the recent lack of rain and the high winds and humidity predicted for today significantly raises the threat of a fire starting and spreading rapidly.

The wildfire still burning at Greenwood Lake, which has spread to 5,000 acres as of this morning, as well as the other minor brush fires that have cropped up around Rockland, indicate just how dangerous the current conditions are.

Rockland County is still under a burn ban, which probihits any burning activity outdoors.
