Ramapo Police Cracks Down On Speeding For Speed Awareness Week
The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee announced that law enforcement agencies throughout New York State will be increasing patrols to target speeding from Monday, August 4, through Sunday, August 10 for Speed Awareness week. Speed Awareness week is a high-visibility enforcement campaign to curb speeding and prevent avoidable crashes caused by unsafe speed.
The Ramapo Police Department announced that they will be taking part in the NYS GTSC Speed Awareness Week, and in addition to their normal traffic enforcement, will be cracking down on speeding and aggressive driving.
According to data from the GTSC , speeding continues to be a large factor in crashes in New York State:
- In 2024, 31% of all fatal crashes in New York were caused by speeding
- 329 people lost their lives and 2,361 suffered serious injuries in these preventable collisions
- The number of fatal crashes caused by unsafe speed increases during the summer months
- 46% of the speed-related fatal and personal injury crashes occurred between noon and 6p.m.
Speeding is dangerous not only for the driver who is speeding, but for all the people around them. Drive safely!
