The Ramapo Highway Department is spending the day preparing for the snowstorm expected to move into the area later today. Crews are loading trucks, staging equipment, and stocking up on salt as forecasts call for significant snowfall.
Town of Ramapo Highway Superintendent Fred Brinn said the highway department will be preparing throughout the day in anticipation of the snowstorm. Current predictions show snow beginning around 2 to 3 p.m. and continuing through the night until about 8 a.m. Saturday morning, with snowfall totals estimated between 7 and 10 inches.
As part of the preparations, a fresh delivery of salt arrived today, and highway department trucks are being fully readied to respond as conditions worsen.
Brinn also noted that since the storm is expected to continue into Shabbos, there will be more people walking than usual. Residents are encouraged to wear reflectors so plow drivers can easily see pedestrians, while plow operators have been instructed to be especially aware of increased foot traffic due to Shabbos.
Residents are strongly urged to make arrangements now to keep all vehicles off roadways for the entire weekend. Cars should be parked in driveways or garages to allow DPW crews to properly and safely plow the streets.
Spring Valley Deputy Mayor Sruly Eisenbach also pointed out the importance of keeping vehicles off the road and urged residents not to park near sidewalks throughout the weekend, allowing plows and emergency vehicles to operate without obstruction.
Keeping roads clear is critical for snow removal operations and emergency access. Residents are asked not to park on the street throughout the entire weekend to help crews do their job efficiently and keep roads safe for everyone, Eisenbach said.
Rockland Hatzoloh is reminding residents that they can be assured that emergency services are preparing for the storm, and that if Chas V’Shulem Hatzoloh is needed, they are ready to assist in all areas.
