Pre-Pesach Car Washing Services Stand Forewarned Against Taking Consumers to the Cleaners

by M.C. Millman
According to a report provided by the New York Attorney General's office, in what has become an annual pre-Pesach custom, numerous car washing services offer their Jewish customers a special rate - one that is up to 50% higher than the price for their usual customers throughout the year.
After seeing this happen year after year, NY Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein urged Attorney General Letitia James to take a stand. Both last year and this year, the Attorney General's office issued a statement reminding New York car wash owners of the illegality of charging different customers different prices for the same services.
Those who feel they have been charged more for services because of their religion, race, or background are encouraged to file a complaint with the OAG online here or by calling 800-771-7755.
